The legal definition of a House in Multiple Occupation is 'a house which is occupied by persons who do not form a single household’. The Council is required by the Housing Act 1985 (as amended) to monitor standards in these properties to ensure that they are fit for habitation and the number of occupants.
If you are a private sector resident or landlord, we can offer you housing advice and support
If you are a Council tenant thinking of buying your home, you should get as much advice and information as you can. You must be sure you are making the right decision.
Most of our sheltered housing is made up of self-contained flats for single people or couples
