The Road Safety Unit is committed to promoting safety for all road users through an ongoing programme of education, training and publicity. The Unit also co-ordinates and provides information, advice and resources. The Unit actively promotes training courses and workshops for both professionals and volunteers.

The initiative, since its implementation, has introduced physical measures such as new cycleways/footpaths, cycle stands and signal crossings at local schools as well as non-physical measures such as signing and road markings at school entrances.
Flintshire has over fifty approved schools crossing patrols sites, serving all members of the community wishing to cross roads at these locations.
