In April 2020, Flintshire Record Office merged with Denbighshire Archives. North East Wales Archives, or NEWA for short, represents a new joint service for the counties of Denbighshire and Flintshire. We now have a new joint website, and this web-page will soon become obsolete.

The Friends of the Clwyd Archives was set up in 1994 to promote and support the work of the four record offices in north-east Wales: Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham.

Its main activities include:
• The raising of funds to purchase archives or equipment for record offices;
• Giving voluntary support to various record-office projects;
• Publication of the Journal, the Clwyd Historian;
• An annual day school on an archive-related theme.

Occasional activities include :
• Wine and cheese evenings (usually at a country house);
• Meetings at various places in the area to hear lectures relating to archives;
• Visits to record repositories and libraries in Wales and the north west of England.

Meetings: Lectures in recent years have included lectures on oral archives, quarter sessions records, political archives, and developments in the National Library of Wales. Day schools: These generally take place in March and in recent years have been arranged on the themes of Shipping on the River Dee; the Defence of the Realm: Volunteers in North Wales 1870-1945; and Clwyd and its Historians.

It includes articles on a wide variety of topics relating to local history and archives and reports on recent developments in local archive repositories.
