Covid-19: Welsh Government National Firebreak Restrictions

The Welsh Government's First Minister has called a ‘Firebreak’ to help slow down the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

The 'Firebreak' will last from 18:00 on Friday 23rd October until 00.01 on Monday 9th November and will replace the current local lockdown measures.

During the ‘Firebreak’ period we will continue to provide core Council services as we have continued to do so since March.

We will also continue to operate key local services where we are able and where we are allowed to do so during the ‘Firebreak’, however some will be closed or restricted during this period. Details below.

Education and Schools

All Primary schools, all Special Schools, the Pupil Referral Unit (Plas Derwen) and all Education Other than at School Provision will remain open other than during usual half term holidays.

Secondary schools will re-open after the half-term for children in years seven and eight. Pupils will be able to come in to take exams but other pupils in Years 9-13 will continue their learning from home for an extra week. Secondary schools will be advising parents/carers and students of the arrangements for the different year/age groups.

Public Transport

Public transport will be operating in Flintshire during the fire break period, for essential travel only. Although services will continue to operate at the current frequency, passengers are strongly advised to check individual operators timetables before planning journeys and are also reminded that it is mandatory to wear face coverings on all public transport.

Further information regarding a further ‘ramp up’ of services to pre-covid service levels will be shared at the end of the fire break period.
