Taliesin Nature Reserve

Children from Ysgol Ty Ffynnon have helped rangers from Flintshire’s
Countryside Services by planting bulbs to revitalise the Taliesin Nature
Reserve in Shotton.
Key Stage 2 pupils took part in the planting session for the environmental
project, which is next door to the school, on Monday 13 October as part of a
wider project to restore the nature reserve using £16,500 of funding from Tidy
Towns.
Tidy Towns is a Keep Wales Tidy initiative funded by the Welsh Government and
supported by local authorities to improve the amenity, accessibility,
biodiversity of areas that have fallen into disrepair. Rangers and volunteers
have already created disabled access paths and improved path surfaces and are
looking to plant wildflower seed and trees, upgrade entrance points and erect
marker stones at the nature reserve.
Councillor Bernie Attridge, Cabinet Member for Environment said: “It’s great to
see the school pupils giving their time to a sustainable project to help the
environment.
The children can learn so much from the rangers about the local area and should
be proud to be part of a team responsible for creating a lovely space for
residents to enjoy.”
Councillor Ann Minshull added: “The bulbs will look wonderful in Spring and the
children will be able to walk through and see a fantastic display of flowers to
complement the other work done on the nature reserve. Well done to all the
pupils involved.”
