White Ribbon Day 2014

Organisations from across Flintshire are joining together on Tuesday 25 November to show their support for an end to violence against women through the White Ribbon Campaign. Flintshire County Council members, officers, local residents and partner agencies will be wearing white ribbons to promote awareness of the campaign, which aims to eliminate all forms of violence against women. The campaign www.whiteribboncampaign.co.uk invites people to pledge their support. Councillor Bernie Attridge, Deputy Leader of Flintshire County Council, and the White Ribbon Campaign Ambassador for Flintshire said: Flintshire fully supports the White Ribbon campaign and, through our actions, we have shown that we are committed to preventing domestic abuse. Violence against women is never acceptable and we will do everything we can to raise awareness of the issue. Councillor Kevin Jones, Cabinet Member for Public Protection, Waste and Recycling and Leisure, said: “As a Council we fully support this cause. Wearing a white ribbon is a great way to show support and is a personal pledge that you will never commit, condone or keep silent about acts of violence against women.” Jackie Goundrey, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Co-ordinator at Flintshire County Council said: “The UN officially recognises the 25 November as International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The White Ribbon is a symbol of hope for a world where women and girls can live free from the fear of violence.
