Another opportunity to meet the buyer

Published: 22/05/2019

Flintshire County Council’s Business team, Flintshire in Business and Wates Construction are teaming up to host a major networking event for suppliers and subcontractors across Flintshire, giving them the opportunity to register an interest to become a supply chain partner for new developments across the county.

The Meet the Buyer event is set to take place on Tuesday 4 June from 9am until 1pm at Theatr Clwyd in Mold (CH7 1YA) and is open to companies from a variety of building trades*.

Attendees are invited to meet with major construction companies and partners** working across Flintshire and find out more about building work taking place across the county as well as being given the opportunity to register their interest in becoming a local supply chain partner for new developments.

Throughout the event, businesses will be offered support and guidance on how to tender for work packages with each contractor as well as finding out about apprenticeships and training as part of the work in the county. Mentors will also be on hand to discuss mental health awareness, drug addiction support and health, safety and wellbeing.

Flintshire County Council’s Strategic Housing and Regeneration Programme (SHARP) which will see the creation of 500 new homes across Flintshire is being delivered by contractor, Wates Construction.

Launched in 2015, SHARP has so far brought extensive opportunities for local supply chain partners, which has in-turn helped to generate on-site training and employment opportunities for local people.

Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Dave Hughes, said:

“The successful partnership between the Council and Wates has already seen many local businesses benefit from working with us.

“We are keen to continue to generate employment opportunities through the use of local businesses. I would encourage small businesses in the construction industry to attend this event to find out more and see how they can get involved.”

Paul Dodsworth, Managing Director, Wates Construction North, commented: “Working with local supply chain partners is an essential part of the work we do and Meet the Buyer events are a fantastic forum to ensure our work generates revenue for local businesses. This in turn ensures that we create a positive economic impact through our work in the county as well as generating even more opportunities for employment and training for local people.”
