Wepre is one of the BBC’s Great Welsh Parks!

Wepre Park in Connah’s Quay has been recognised as being one of the Great Welsh Parks. Flintshire County Council’s flagship park will be the focus of a half hour programme on BBC1 Wales next Monday (19 January). Iolo’s Great Welsh Parks is a BBC series highlighting four parks and looking at their wildlife over the changing seasons. Wepre Park, its rangers, volunteers and wildlife, was filmed throughout 2014. Presenter Iolo Williams joined the Countryside Rangers as they surveyed for rare great crested newts; he also enjoyed tracking down badgers and having a close encounter with a wood mouse. Councillor Bernie Attridge, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “I am pleased, but not surprised, that Wepre has been recognised as being one of the Great Welsh Parks. It is wonderful that Wepre Park is being showcased in this way, with a prime time spot on BBC1 Wales. I look forward to watching the programme, which is on on Monday evening at 7.30pm. If you miss it, it will be on the BBC iPlayer for a week following the broadcast.” Flintshire County Councils Biodiversity Officer, Sarah Slater, who was filmed with Iolo added: “It was a great experience working with the production team - a real insight into how they get such fantastic shots.
