Greenfield Valley Heritage Lottery Fund bid

Published: 12/02/2015

An exciting Heritage Lottery Fund bid to redevelop the Greenfield Valley Museum and Heritage Park is expected to be approved by Cabinet on Tuesday (17 February). The Greenfield Valley Uncovered project aims to put the area firmly on the map, in terms of its historical importance. The proposed works will see the refurbishment and repair of historic buildings and the visitor reception building extended and remodelled. An activity leader will be employed to run a programme of events and activities, and digital media will be used as part of plans for better interpretation of buildings and collections. Audio points will be available, where memories gathered through an oral history project would be heard. Improved access through better pathways and re-designed entrances is also proposed. Greenfield Valley Museum and Heritage Park is owned by Flintshire County Council and managed by the Greenfield Valley Trust. Flintshire County Council is committed to finding sustainable solutions for local services and public assets, which includes the Greenfield Valley Museum and Heritage Park, and in 2013 the project received a Round 1 pass from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Once approved by Cabinet, the project is ready to be submitted for a Round Two Heritage Lottery Fund allocation, seeking over £940,000 in funding. Councillor Bernie Attridge, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Leader for Environment, said: “Greenfield Valley Uncovered is a great proposal, with ambitious aims. At its heart is the role that Greenfield played in the industrial revolution, which has shaped the world as we know it today.” Councillor Chris Bithell, Cabinet Member for Education, whose portfolio includes libraries, culture and museums, said: “This is a very exciting bid. If successful, the project aims to reveal the hidden history of this area and the people who lived and worked here, which we anticipate will also lead to an increase in volunteers and visitor numbers.” Images An appendix which contains artists impressions is available as part of the Cabinet report, which can be found on the Councils website.
