Art in the Library – Lliw yn y Llyfrgell

Published: 04/03/2015

Holywell Library Monday 2 to Tuesday 31 March 2015 - Ceridwen Barkley Photography Ceridwen Barkley’s stunning photography is the first of a series of exhibitions to be held in libraries across Flintshire throughout 2015 showcasing the work of local artists. Art in the Library – Lliw yn y Llyfrgell aims to support local artists, some of whom have never exhibited before, by giving them a platform to showcase their work to the public. Throughout this year the exhibition programme at Flintshire’s libraries will include paintings by Angie Hoopert, Emma-Jayne Holmes and Clayton Langford; drawings by Scott Bongo and photography by Ceridwen Barkley. Ceridwen says about her work: Our lives are so busy that we often do not take enough time to really look at the world around us - to truly see the interactions that happen between people or animals, the depth of colour in plumage or the comical expressions we need to take time to observe. “My passion in photography began through curiosity and has resulted in a growing awareness of the world around me. I hope that my images portray some of that interest and passion.” Although her images include photographs taken in the UK, France, Germany and Denmark, her favourite place to capture nature at its best is in the North Wales countryside, which provides a beautiful backdrop. Councillor Chris Bithell, Cabinet Member for Education, said: This is a fantastic programme. Not only does it show how arts can bring an extra dimension to visiting a library, but I am proud that Flintshire County Councils Arts, Culture and Events team and our Libraries service are supporting our local talent in this way - by showcasing their work and supporting our artists as businesses. The exhibition can be seen at Holywell Library throughout March during usual opening hours.
