Action for Children have successfully provided a short break facility for children and young people aged 5 to19 with disabilities and their parents at Arosfa, a registered Children’s Homes situated in Mold. Overnight stays are also provided for those who require specialist care.

There are plans to refurbish an unused wing of the building to provide two additional bed spaces at the facility to accommodate two permanent long-term residents. This would provide a quality local service as an alternative to out of county placements and   would complement the current short break, respite provision for up to three children.

Together the plans would enable support for five children at any one time.

Cllr. Christine Jones, Cabinet Member for Social Services said;

“This service gives young people an opportunity to spend time away from home, preparing them for future independent living and a chance for parents and carers to spend much-needed quality time with other family members,

“The proposed additional capacity at Arosfa will provide a good quality, cost effective and local service, as a clear alternative to out of county placements.”

The Council’s Cabinet will consider a report recommending funding to assist the building and refurbishment work required at Arosfa at its meeting on 22 October.
