Secret Garden

The beautiful story of ‘The Secret Garden’ will be brought to life by school
pupils this July.
Pupils from Ysgol Trelogan and Ysgol Brynffordd in Flintshire and Ysgol y Rhos,
in Denbighshire are taking part in Flintshire’s Schools in Performance on
Friday 4 July at Clwyd Theatr Cymru.
Noted as one of the best childrens books of the twentieth century the ‘Secret
Garden’ is a novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett and is a classic of English
childrens literature.
Working with a team of professionals, under the artistic direction of BAFTA
nominated writer Janys Chambers, designer Andrea Davies and visual artist Sarah
Carvel the pupils will create all the props and scenery for the production and
assist Janys Chambers in writing the dialogue.
Janys has written over 100 radio, theatre and television scripts for the BBC,
TV soap Emmerdale, Holby and Children’s Ward and her recent work includes her
adaptation of My Family and Other Animals for York Theatre Royal.
Councillor Chris Bithell, Cabinet Member for Education said: “This is an
exemplary example of local authorities working together to give an excellent
opportunity for young people to engage with professional artists and to perform
on a professional stage.”
Flintshire Schools in Performance is organised by Flintshire County Council’s
Arts, Culture and Events Section and The Secret Garden production has been part
funded the Arts Council of Wales and Literature Wales.
