Flintshire Youth Services

Who we are

Flintshire Youth Service is part of Flintshire County Council’s Education and Youth portfolio. We work with young people aged 11–25 to support their personal, social, and educational development, as well as their mental health and wellbeing.

We provide a wide range of opportunities and experiences in both Welsh and English, ensuring young people can access inclusive and engaging provision. Through youth work approaches, we create enjoyable experiences that enrich young people’s lives and support their growth.

Our Approach

Our work is underpinned by the five pillars of youth work:

  • Young people are thriving
  • Youth work is accessible and inclusive
  • Voluntary and paid professional youth work staff are supported throughout their careers to improve their practice
  • Youth work is valued and understood
  • A sustainable model for youth work delivery

What We Do

Youth Services in Flintshire deliver a broad range of opportunities for young people in different settings.

We run eight youth clubs that are open weekly during term time. These open-access sessions provide safe spaces for young people aged 11–17 to socialise, build friendships, and engage in positive activities.

The Detached and Outreach Team works within local communities during term time, currently delivering sessions in partnership with Gwella to engage young people where they are.

The Youth Homelessness Prevention Service supports young people who require additional help. The team works to prevent homelessness and crisis situations by offering family mediation, support into education and employment, and guidance in developing independent living skills.

The School and Community Immersion Team works within Flintshire secondary schools, providing support during the school day and helping young people achieve their goals and aspirations.

Forest School offers outdoor learning opportunities, enabling young people to develop new skills while connecting with nature.

The Play Development Team provides supervised, open-access play opportunities within local communities, supporting wellbeing and development.

Welsh Language Commitment

Flintshire Youth Service recognises both the importance of, and our responsibility to, promote and advocate for the Welsh language. We have a designated Community Welsh Language Officer who works across our services to ensure the Welsh language is embedded in our delivery.

This supports the Welsh Government’s target of reaching one million Welsh speakers by 2050, while also ensuring young people have opportunities to engage with and develop their Welsh language skills in meaningful ways.

Where to Find Us

We engage with young people in a variety of settings to ensure our services are accessible and responsive to their needs. This includes youth centres, youth clubs, schools, local communities, and through detached youth work—meeting young people where they are.

We also connect with young people online through our social media channels. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram  to stay up to date with activities, opportunities, and support available.
