Trading Standards together with colleagues in Environmental Health are responsible for ensuring compliance by all food premises with the Food Safety Act. Food premises includes bakers, butchers, and other food shops on the high street, supermarkets, farm shops, manufacturers, cafe's, restaurants and pubs and hotels.
Trading Standards are responsible for enforcing legislation that seeks to ensure that food is correctly labelled and is compositionally correct as well as ensuring that the packaging is neither misleading or excessive. Trading Standards are also responsible for enforcing that part of the food safety act that prohibits fresh pre packed food being sold after its "use by" date.
Environmental Health are responsible for ensuring compliance with food safety legislation including safety of food products and hygiene standards in food premises.
Trading Standards ensure that food produced and sold in Flintshire is compliant with compositional standards, making sure that food is correctly labelled, that the ingredients accurately represent the description and also that the ingredients are legal. Trading Standards also ensure that nutritional claims and labels are accurate.
Trading Standards ensure compliance with food standards by carrying out routine inspections of food premises, taking food samples for compositional analysis by the Public Analyst's laboratory and advising and assisting food businesses with food standards legislation.
