Where we are now and why we need to do more

The council’s revised Waste Management Strategy in 2024 running up to 2030.

Since its implementation the waste service have significantly changed. To meet the Welsh Government’s Statutory Recycling Targets, we have moved to a 3-weekly bin, collection service to a modern, highly controlled service that focusses on reuse and recycling.

Back in 2024 we were recycling 63% of the waste we collected. Though the introduction of weekly recycling collections and a 3 weekly residual waste collection we are now recycling 70%.

With your help we can assist in making Wales the number 1 best performing country for recycling.

This would be a fantastic achievement. Indications are the Welsh Government may raise the council targets to 80% or even 90% in the future as it knows not all recyclable waste is not being presented at the kerbside.

There are still households refusing to recycle waste at all. The Council are Continuing to take enforcement against households persistently presenting additional waste at the side of their black bin.
