Successful screening of an old favourite

A screening of a favourite old movie was enjoyed at Flint Cinema recently “Singing in the Rain” was the second time the Flint Dementia Friendly Communities Steering Group had invited people to the cinema. Flint Cinema has recently been accredited by the group for the action they are taking to put on these dementia friendly screenings. The event was open to all but mainly welcomed the memory café attendees in Flintshire and people living with dementia from Flint and local care homes. Attendees enjoyed a classic, old-fashioned cinema experience: usherettes taking people to their seats with torches, selling popcorn from the classic trays, an interval and ice cream. They also enjoyed a sing along the screening was supported, quieter than usual and well-lit. Many people were reminiscing about the cinema and when they last visited it. Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Services, Councillor Christine Jones, said: “These events offer a wonderful experience for people with dementia and their carers and further enhances all the good work that is being done in Flintshire to help support them.” Some of the comments after the event included: “What a fabulous afternoon! Popcorn, singing, a bit of armchair tap dancing! I love the mixture of comfortable seats and sofas, all round a wonderful afternoon shared by all, thank you to the other steering committee members for making this happen.” “Wonderful afternoon....Im still talking about it! Thank you for the invite.....were all looking forward to the next movie afternoon”. Next showing is Friday, 1 December when there will be a showing of “White Christmas” at 1pm.
