People urged to apply for town centre grant funding

Published: 19/12/2023

Local people and organisations are being urged to apply for a grant to deliver events and activities to improve Flintshire’s town centres.

The grant scheme was launched after the Council’s regeneration team was awarded more than £1.1 million from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund. The money will be spent across 7 projects aimed at improving the town centres in Buckley, Connah’s Quay, Flint, Holywell, Mold, Queensferry and Shotton.

Successful applicants will receive a minimum of £500 and a maximum of £10,000 towards events and activities which will improve the vibrancy of their town centre. Applicants are expected to find a minimum of 20 per cent of the overall cost, with up to 80 per cent of the total cost available from the grant funding.

Councillor David Healey, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Economy said: “If you have a passion for your town centre and community, I’d encourage you to apply. These activities and events will really benefit our town centres and bring people together.

“In recent years, town centres have suffered through reduced footfall and this funding will help to bring life and vibrancy back to our communities.”

Applications are submitted to monthly panels for assessment and consideration, however, funding is limited so it is advised to apply early to avoid disappointment.

Outside Lives was one of the first beneficiaries to receive funding for activities in Mold, which started with a successful Christmas event which drew more than 1,000 attendees. It featured a range of activities for all the families, including a pop-up cinema in Daniel Owen Centre.

Lucy Powell from Outside Lives said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to announce an exciting initiative aimed at invigorating Mold town centre with a series of engaging events under the theme ‘It doesn’t have to cost the Earth’. This exciting project responds to the community’s desire for more affordable, sustainable and eco-friendly activities to enhance the overall wellbeing of the community.

“Thanks to funding from Flintshire County Council’s Regeneration Team, there will be events for people of all ages and abilities. You can guarantee that the Outside Lives team will go all out and make them events to remember.”
