Art and dance
Published: 25/04/2014
Artwork inspired by dance will go on display across two North Wales’ counties
in May.
The exhibition is part of a joint project by Communities First East Flintshire
together with Flying Start run over Easter at John Summers High School in
Queensferry and the Oak Tree Centre in Rhyl. It is also in partnership with the
Family Information Service and North Denbighshire Communities First Cluster who
are working with baby and toddler groups, a holiday club and people from the
local community.
Children aged two and above worked with professional visual artist Luned Rhys
Parri and dance practitioner Jamie Jenkins from NEW Dance to create artwork
based on the theme of happy face, dancing feet. The project explored how young
people respond to emotion, what makes them happy and how this is physically and
verbally conveyed.
The exhibitions will be held at Clwyd Theatr Cymru from 6 May to 10 June and
Rhyl Library Gallery from 24 May to 19 July with young people performing
alongside the exhibits during the official opening.
Councillor Chris Bithell, Cabinet Member for Education said:
“I am delighted that young people and parents within Communities First areas in
Flintshire and Denbighshire are receiving valuable creative opportunities to
express themselves and ultimately learn new artistic skills. This project also
demonstrates excellent partnership working between local authorities and I
congratulate all officers involved.”
Sian Fitzgerald, Arts Development Officer for Denbighshire County Council said:
“This is a wonderful opportunity for all involved, both to develop creative
skills in the community and also to further develop creative partnerships, not
only with the North Denbighshire Communities First Cluster and Family
Information Services within Denbighshire, but also with Flintshire Arts,
Culture and Events section.”
This project had been jointly funded by Flintshire Arts, Culture & Events
section, Communities First East Flintshire, Denbighshire Communities Arts
Service and The Arts Council of Wales.
