Published: 08/12/2014

Flintshires award winning mental health services were showcased at a national conference in London. Mental health care professionals from all over the UK heard about the Living Independent Lives project which supports adults with severe and enduring mental health problems. In a joint presentation with Sue Woods, Director of the Flintshire Advocacy Service, the Councils Chief Officer for Social Services Neil Ayling and Team Manager Rhian Evans explained how a range of services are tailored to support individuals to help them be more independent and active in their local communities. This innovative approach reduces the cost of mental health services. Councillor Christine Jones, Cabinet Member for Social Services, said: I am proud that Flintshires work has been recognised nationally following on from the service winning a Social Care Accolade last year. Our approach has ensured that people with mental health issues have more opportunities for independence and well-being. We are building on this success, and continue to provide services that are at the forefront of good practice. Being invited to speak at the national conference was an excellent opportunity for our officers to share good practice and showcase our achievements
