Bagillt past and present

20201102_113823.jpgFlintshire Countryside team’s heritage project in Bettisfield Bagillt is gearing up for action with works already underway.

Bagillt Past and Present will focus on the diverse heritage of the foreshore that stems back to the past industrial story of the site, the community that built around that industry and the wildlife that has now reclaimed it. The foreshore has a rich and varied history based on its geological richness, industry, historic transport links and costal natural heritage.

Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Countryside, Councillor Carolyn Thomas, said:

"This work will benefit and celebrate our local and national heritage on site and in the community.

"Works include management of invasive species, tree works to benefit Condies Pond, gorse management, improvements to the natterjack toad habitat and a grazing project to improve the meadow.

"We are also looking to install on-site interpretation, a fantastic digital trail and a site based leaflet. It will host a series of local events and work with local children to create and deliver a performance about the history of Bagillt, our plans may need to be adapted slightly to conform with Covid-19 guidance."

Finally it will look to install new features on site to celebrate the rich Welsh heritage of Bagillt and its residents.

Keep abreast of the project and opportunities to be involved by following Flintshire countryside and cost social media pages.

This joint project is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Welsh Government through its Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme and Flintshire County Council.

The National Lottery Heritage Fund, distributes a share of National Lottery funding, supporting a wide range of heritage projects across the United Kingdom for the benefit of heritage and people.

The "Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme" is a Welsh Government funding programme managed by Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) which supports local community and environmental projects in areas affected by the disposal of waste to landfill.
