Willmott Dixon’s transformation of Marleyfield House takes shape

Published: 15/12/2020

Embracing innovative new ways of keeping our people safe, construction firm Willmott Dixon and Flintshire County Council are on schedule to complete the major expansion of the Marleyfield House care home in Buckley.

The £8.4 million redevelopment project will double the number of beds at Marleyfield House from 32 to 64 and increase communal outdoor spaces and accessibility to support residents’ well-being.

Each room will have personal outdoor space either through a balcony on the first floor or a patio on the ground, while the extension will also see the creation of new communal areas, medical facilities, offices and store- rooms, extended car parking facilities and extensive sensitive landscaping.

An example of the local authority’s pro-active approach to addressing the current significant pressures and fragility in the care sector across the country, the project is set to complete in summer 2021, with work having continued amid the challenges of the global pandemic.

During Covid-19, the home entered into lockdown and Willmott Dixon adjusted its construction practices to make sure the site was separated from the home at all times. This included a dedicated site access, the construction of additional parking bays for the home and coordinated deliveries.

Flintshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Services, Councillor Christine Jones, said:

“It was great to see this fantastic modern extension to Marleyfield taking shape.  It has fabulous views and will offer state-of-the-art facilities.  This reaffirms the Council’s commitment to quality services, investing money in critical services.  I am proud that Flintshire County Council continues to support our most vulnerable residents.”

Anthony Dillon, managing director for Willmott Dixon in North Wales and the North of England, said:

“We’re very proud to play our part in delivering such as important project that is going to make the local community proud and create a modern, welcoming and high-quality home for residents.

“It is thanks to the strength of the relationships and collaboration between our team, Flintshire Council and all our local design and supply chain partners that we have overcome the unprecedented challenges of the year to date, progressed the project, and, most importantly, kept everyone safe on site.”
